In August 2024 we celebrated our 50th birthday!

Stanair has come a long way from its initial roots in 1974 but, its commitment to providing quality for its customers has never waned…

Join us as we head down memory lane to explore the key highlights of Stanair’s journey from 1974 to today!

1974: Stanair was born as its founders had a vision. They wanted to supply a reliable repair service for industrial and commercial doors which was available 24 hours a day. Based within the home of Moreen Hill a founder with current Group Chairman, John Standoloft, in Tyringham Newport Pagnell and in The Crescent Kettering,

They soon built a reputation for reliability, quality and a 24-hour service.

1988: In response to the increased demand for the team’s services, they moved to new premises in New Bradwell, Milton Keynes, allowing more space for a growing fleet, staff and range of services.

1992: The Stanair team had built a successful reputation for providing a quality service through not only their repairs but also their servicing activities. However, they wanted to be able to prove to their customers that quality was at the very heart of what they did.

The Crescent Head Office applied for the BS5750 accreditation (now known as ISO9001) which would show that all their processes, services and staff provided their customers with the very best. However, there was a problem. No such qualification existed exclusively for the industrial door industry at that time!

Recognising Stanair’s dedication to excellence, Managing Director, Michael Markham, and the Technical Director, David Martin, were asked to create the standards required for the entire industrial door industry.

Stanair passed and continue to conform to the changing demands to keep the accreditation today. Michael served as an assessor for the standard for many years helping other companies to place quality first.

This year also saw the very first installation of a rapid action door by the company – the first of many – displaying the company’s commitment to using the latest in innovation and technology to best serve its customers’ needs.

1994: Under the tenure of Managing Director Michael Markham, the Milton Keynes depot achieved its own BS5750 (ISO 9001) accreditation.
Meanwhile, the Kettering depot continued to grow and needed larger premises, a move from The Crescent to Telford Way, Kettering offered new office space, internal training facilities as well as more facilities for the engineers.

The following year, a similar premises was located for the Milton Keynes team.

1996: Stanair once again expanded its reach northwards by acquiring a depot within Rugby which allowed the engineers to quickly reach customers in need throughout Warwickshire and beyond…

1999: Stanair achieved its ‘Investors in People’ accreditation which showcased the company’s dedication to investing in the best possible training of its staff.

This was also the year that saw the opening of a new depot in St David’s Square, Peterborough which enabled Stanair to reach and respond to customers based within the area sooner.

2002: Stanair’s commitment to its staff was recognised through its winning of the National Training Awards. These awards celebrate those companies which go above and beyond when it comes to training their staff to the highest possible standards – another proof of commitment to its employees.

The company was asked to judge categories of the SME Awards to help new businesses benefit from their expertise, knowledge and insight.

2005: The Peterborough team continued to expand as they moved into new purpose-built premises in Newark Road, Peterborough.
The company achieved its Safe Contractor Accreditation-highlighting its commitment to safe practices at work.

2012: The company welcomed David Wood as Managing Director.

2021: Even in the height of COVID lockdowns, Stanair worked tirelessly as a part of the Critical Services Infrastructure to keep critical business open across their area.

2022: The company welcomed William Smith as Managing Director.

2024: Our 50th anniversary!

The future? Who knows. However, one thing is for sure. Stanair will only ever continue to place its customers, its staff and services first. Presently the company has 820 years of combined experience within the industrial door trade, you can be sure that ‘Quality on Call’ will remain at the heart of everything Stanair do, now and into the future.

Come and join us on our journey – we can’t wait to see what the next 50 years will bring…
