Sectional overhead door

Roller shutter doors and sectional overhead doors both offer excellent safety, security and performance - but which is best for your building? Here we explain the differences between these two door types and how you can decide which one is right for your premises.

Roller Shutter Doors

Roller shutter doors are made up of horizontal slats that roll up and down, gathering around a barrel above the door. The slats are held in place by tracks on either side of the door, and as this door type rolls upwards rather than opening outwards, it doesn’t take up much space.

Typical Applications for Roller Shutter Doors

Roller shutter doors are often used in warehouses, factories and industrial units.

  • Standard sizes - There is no standard size, roller shutter doors can also be built to bespoke sizes depending on your requirements.
  • They can be fitted with manual or automatic operation, as well as remote control operation and automatic timed return.
  • They can be installed in built-in or bolt-on configurations.

Sectional Overhead Doors

Sectional overhead doors are made up of panel sections that lift vertically as the doors open. The sections, or panels, roll upwards, curve around and roll horizontally below until the door is fully open. Like roller shutter doors, they save space thanks to their “up and over” design. This also minimises the risk of damage.

Sectional overhead doors are suitable for a wide range of premises, from fire and ambulance stations to high-class showrooms, to warehouses and factories.
