Northamptonshire County Cricket Club were celebrating this autumn as they sealed promotion to Division One of the Specsavers County Championship.
The Head Coach of Northants David Ripley has said that the club have a squad capable of competing in division one in 2020/21 season.
Having been bottom of the table in June, Northamptonshire, who’s Mascot Steeler the Dog is sponsored by Stanair, confirmed their incredible turnaround to seal promotion with a draw at Bristol in the final week of the season.
Coming in to the last game, Northants needed just 4 points to ensure they couldn't be shifted from the three promotion places on offer. The team were unphased by an unfriendly Bristol weather forecast and the same could be said for opponents Gloucestershire, who sat in third place before the encounter and needed just a handful of points themselves.
Chief cause for celebration from the successful season is the bowling attack, led by Ben Sanderson who took 60 wickets at an average of 19.65 this season.
“This is a remarkable achievement by the County, who were bottom of the table in June, and didn't win their first game until July.” said Martin Wall from Stanair. “The team turned it around and promotion is great news for the players, the club, the sporting community and Northamptonshire as a whole.”
