We've been proud to support Annabel 'Abbz' Thomas in her racing journey and were delighted to receive her latest match report following her competing at Oulton Park.
14-year old Abbz Thomas showed her pace and tenacity during the penultimate round of the HEL Performance Motostar Championship at Cheshire’s Oulton Park circuit last weekend, 14th to 16th September.
Abbz has now put points on the board at four fixtures in her debut year in the standard class of the Motostar series, all while taking accidents and injury in her stride. At Oulton Park, she placed P14 and P18 in two wet free-practice sessions. She then picked up the pace in a dry qualifying session to finish in P14 with a time of 1m54.510s. In a showery Race 1, she finished in P11 with a swift best lap of 1m55.868s. Abbz then crashed out in standing water in Race 2. She takes 5 points from Oulton Park.
“We initially struggled this weekend,” said Abbz’s father, Steffan. “Abbz worked very hard with crew-chief John Thornley and the team to qualify P14, but the pack up to P8 and P9 were so tight. Race 1 was dramatic to say the least. It started dry but the heavens opened on the opening lap and the race was stopped.
“There was a mad change in the pits and they were all out again on wets. Abbz started badly to be honest, going right to the back. But she really got her head down and scorched through the pack to join the battle for the top ten. She had a great battle with Ross Turner and really enjoyed it, finishing in P11 but most importantly setting the fourth fastest lap and qualifying in P4 for Race 2.
“Getting her best ever qualifying position and a chance to set off with the front-runners gave her a massive boost. Unfortunately, we ended up gutted. Despite improvements in the warm-up, a crash through standing water on the warm-up lap scuppered what should have been a great race.
“Still, it was a really positive weekend’s riding, with plenty of improvements to take to Brands in a few weeks.
“Thanks to everyone for their kind messages over the weekend – it really meant so much. Huge appreciation as ever to Four Anjels, Stanair, Memset Web Hosting, Cool Milk and Ixon Leathers.”
