New figures calculated by one of the UK’s longest-established industrial door companies show that a series of seven rapid action doors will pay for themselves within just three years.
Engineers at Stanair Industrial Door Services say the most up-to-date doors can reduce heating bills in most facilities, especially warehouses and distribution depots.
The company has recently fitted seven doors to facilities operated by the famous diesel engine manufacturer Perkins Engines, in Peterborough. Over several years it has had dozens of the doors fitted by Stanair.
Stanair depot manager Will Smith said: “Our calculations demonstrated to the Perkins management team that by getting the doors to automatically open and close only when they were needed, less warm air was able to escape the building.
“This is good for the workers, but also has a positive effect on the heating bills. Less warm air out means less air needs to be heated to replace it.”
Will added: “Of course, once the doors have paid for themselves, they will go on saving energy past the initial three year period. These doors have a long lifespan making them a sensible investment for any company.”
The rapid action doors are operated using an induction loop.
That means that the doors open themselves at a rate of one metre per second, when they sense a forklift approaching, and close again afterwards.
A series of safety sensors ensure that the door will not close if something or someone is blocking the entrance.
Used in circumstances such as this, a rapid action door maintains the majority of the warmth within a building, while making day-to-day operations more efficient.
