Engineers at Stanair Industrial Door Services are warning forklift truck drivers that reckless driving is costing their employers thousands in industrial door repairs.
The company’s Midlands depots have recently had a spate of more than 50 call outs to fix industrial doors damaged by forklifts.
“Often the driver has not raised an overhead door high enough because it’s cold outside, and accidentally catches the door on the way through,” explained Stanair’s depot manager in Milton Keynes, Wayne Thompson.
“Even a low speed accident can cause a lot of damage to an industrial door, bending panels or causing it come off its runners. For accidents such as these, the repair bill would be at least £500.”
Wayne added: “What we suggest is that drivers get in the habit of double checking all doors have been opened fully before using them.
“A more fool proof alternative is to install rapid action doors that open automatically, at speeds of up to a metre a second.”
