Today is the fifth anniversary of new regulations which set out to improve the access disabled people have to public buildings – including shops and businesses.
What is known as Part M of the Building Regulations changed on 1st May 2004, affecting all businesses that provide a service to the public.
Previously buildings had been required to meet certain minimum standards. The change demanded that buildings are made accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
One of the services Stanair offers to clients is modifying buildings to improve disabled access.
Of course the term ‘disabled people’ doesn’t just mean those confined to wheelchairs.
It means a wide group of people, including the blind and partially sighted, deaf and hard of hearing as well as people with other physical and mental disabilities not always apparent to others.
If you are planning modifications to your business’s building, Stanair can advise on changes to make your building fully accessible.
