Stanair helped to preserve the Lightnings at Bruntingthorpe

Stanair has played its part in helping to preserve two exciting ex-military aircraft at an airfield in Leicestershire.

The Rugby depot helped to rehang doors on an historic aircraft hanger being re-erected at the Bruntingthorpe site, by the Lightning Preservation Group.

The group saved the last two English Electric (BAC) Lightning aircraft when they were taken out of service at the end of 1980s.

It regularly runs them down the airstrip (unfortunately the planes are no longer licensed to be actually flown).

The hangar dates back to the 1960s and is an essential part of the plan to protect the planes in the years to come.

It was previously a Quick Reaction Alert hanger built in the 1960s at the former RAF Wattisham site.

Only three were ever built in the UK. Now it is being put back together to help protect the aircraft and serve as a future museum building.

Help from Stanair’s experienced door engineers was essential to ensure the doors were fitted correctly.
