| Steve Harrison, one of our Senior Engineers at our Peterborough Depot, races a banger as a hobby. Currently he has 3 Ford Sierras to race and he hopes to do 11 meetings this year, mainly at the Northampton stadium. Steve has been hanger racing on & off for 14 years now and finished 14th in the points championship last year! - with over 100 licensed drivers.
Earlier this year he attended another 2 meetings: Steve explains, "I had built and fitted a new engine in the 2 weeks before this meeting with hopefully a little more power, however on arriving at the track I found it had an air leak betweeii the carburettor and inlet manifold. I tried racing it in the heats, but it was well down on power and I only managed 8th in the 1st Heat and 10th in the 2nd. I didn't race in the Final, choosing to save the car for the next meeting which was only 6 days away."
The next meeting was May 12th, I'd replaced the inlet manifold spacer in the week since the last meeting, and the car now seemed OK. Only one Heat this time, which didn't go too well as I kept getting slowed down by various accidents! I got 5th place in the end. I went out for the Final hoping for a good result as the car was now OK. In the end I got 2nd, which earnt a trophy and a Lap of Honour. It was a long hard race, but I went home happy!"
